The Delta Junction Visitor Center recently received a much-needed facelift. At its August 18 meeting, the Delta Junction City Council awarded Prestige Homes by Design LLC a $12,500 contract to paint the exterior.
The last time the building was painted was when it was constructed some 40 years ago. Weather and time have since taken a toll on the building, and Prestige discovered rotting wood along the bottom edges of the center. Prestige indicated they could repair the bottom and then repaint, blending it in with the building.
“The building’s exterior has seen little maintenance since its construction,” stated City Administrator Lori Roberts. “It is time.”
Roberts said this is part of a broader plan to bring all city structures up to date with needed repairs.
She noted the Community Center had its well pump replaced, the library recently had an air handling system installed, City Hall received new gutters and snow strips, as did the Public Works Building.
“A Toyo stove was installed in the scale house at the City Landfill last winter,” Roberts said.
“We had an electric bill of around $1,000 a month just to heat it. Bringing in the Toyo last winter dropped the heating bill to around $300 a month. It’s all part of the plan to bring all buildings up to date and receive needed repairs.”
