The clouds parted just long enough for some sun to illuminate and warm some rock picking youngsters at Rest Haven Cemetery on Saturday, September 5.
Pat White, recently retired from Delta Junction City Hall, noticed how the mower blades sustained continued damage from rocks at the cemetery.
“I thought this would be a great community service for someone in the community,” she commented. “I mentioned it to Laura White who is with the Delta Skating Association. She took it to the board, and they heartily embraced it.”
Despite hunting being in full swing and it being a Labor Day weekend, five skaters plus a sibling and mothers showed up to scour the area for rocks.
“I don’t skate but I’m just here to help,” grinned Topanga Hollet. “My three siblings are skaters.”
It didn’t take long for the buckets to be filled with the blade nickers. And just in time, as Mother Nature had grown impatient and signaled for the return of the rain clouds. And rain it did, indeed.
