The conscience, a built-in detector

John 8:9 states, “And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.”

We have within our souls a conscience. It is that part of us that inherently knows whenever something is right and something is wrong. Let me illustrate in a very simple fashion. On many occasions I have had to fly to visit different cities. Whenever I want to get on the airline flight I have paid for, I first have to go through the TSA security checkpoint like every other passenger. These are machines that scan your person to make sure there are no metal objects in your pockets that could pose a threat to the other passengers on the airplane. On a couple of occasions, I have failed to remove something from a pocket or even a metal belt bucket that caused the machine to react.

The machine sounding off or alerting the security agent is what your inner conscience is like. The awareness that presses upon a person’s mind that something is not right and alerting you to beware is your conscience.

For a true Christian, the Holy Spirit is our alarm system, alerting our conscience of that which is sin and not Biblically correct. It is through the study of the Word of God (the Bible) and the moving of the Holy Spirit that diverts the Christian from sin.

It is sin, according to the Bible, that keeps a person from being able to enter into Heaven after physical death as Romans 3:10, 23, 6:23 point out. A person’s sin can be removed, allowing a person to enter into Heaven by asking Jesus Christ to forgive them of their sin and to be their Savior.  Romans 10:13 states, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you have never done that from your heart (Romans 10:9-10), why not read the Scriptures and think about it.
