Nicholas Gene Dollar, age 31, is facing two separate counts, one of attempted arson in the second degree, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree. According to an Alaska State Trooper report dated October 1, two troopers responded to a report on Remington Road that a woman’s son, Nicholas Dollar was attempting to burn down her house and had damaged her property. Upon arriving at the scene, the owner of the house was in her vehicle, away from her residence. Dollar came out of the house when one of the troopers called out, asking him to step outside. Dollar asked if he was going to jail. He told the trooper he broke the front passenger window of a vehicle. Dollar was read his Miranda rights and said he understood them. He went on to say he wanted to go to jail and threatened to break more windows. Dollar also said he was going to burn this place down if not taken to jail and was going to burn down every house in a line. He then threatened to burn down the entire town.
The mother stated Dollar was being a tyrant and walking around ranting and raving when she got up in the morning. She said Dollar was threatening to burn down the house, so she went to sit in her truck. Dollar came outside but did not say anything. The mother became concerned so she went back into the house where she saw Dollar had shoved blankets, pillows, and her jacket in the wood stove and left the door of the stove open. The items were hanging out the door and Dollar had moved a chair in front of the stove to help hold in the items. She also said he broke her telescope, but did not want to rack up charges on her son. The mother said he was drinking a beer and that was probably his problem. Dollar was taken to the Fairbanks Correctional facility. He later appeared in the District Court in Fairbanks on October 2, where he was charged on the two counts.
