As a young boy I saw a television movie called, “Mutiny on the Bounty.” Most people do not know that the Bible had a profound impact in that historical event; however, it was in the latter years.
In 1787, a British ship, the Bounty, set sail for the South Seas. The mission of the Bounty was for the crew to transplant fruit-bearing trees to the other islands to make them more habitable. It took the Bounty two months to reach its destination.
The crew faithfully discharged their duties for six months. Upon completion, they were given the order to return to England. It was an order that did not sit well with the crew. During their time there, the crew had developed relationships with the native girls and a like for the South Seas lifestyle. They mutinied against Captain Bligh and a few loyal men, setting them adrift in an open boat. Miraculously, Captain Bligh and those few men were rescued and brought back to England.
An expedition was launched to find the roughly 23 men who had mutinied. In time, 14 were caught and punished according to British law, while nine had moved to a neighboring island. Due to the nature of the nine men on the island, all but one man was killed – Alexander Smith.
While going through the possessions of the deceased, Alexander found a Bible. He began to read it, believed it, and practiced its teachings. He then began reading it to all the women and children. It was 20 years before another ship came upon that island. When they did arrive upon the scene, the island was a place of utopia. There was no crime, disease, immorality, or illiteracy.
Had the crew and native islanders read the Bible years before and accepted Jesus as their Savior, their lives would have been different.
Second Corinthians 6:2 states, “Behold now is the accepted time, behold, now is the day of salvation.”
How about you, friend? Have you trusted Jesus Christ as Savior? Simply ask Jesus to come into your heart and forgive you of your sins. Your life will never be the same. Think about it.
