Election season is in full swing as evidenced by the bulging mail boxes stuffed with campaign ads. Federal and state elections may be hot topics across the state, but several local elections will have residents heading for the polls on October 6.

The local community will be voting for their candidate(s) of choice for Delta/Greely School Board, Deltana Community Corporation, Delta Junction City Council, and Big Delta Rescue.

The Delta/Greely School board will be seeing new faces as two incumbents are stepping down and a third filling a vacant seat all running unopposed. Eric Ruse, who was last elected for Seat E in 2023, is stepping down, with Shaun Noling filing for the position. Seat F is currently held by Steve Sorensen, who indicated his intent to run for the seat. Sorensen was appointed when Richard Mauer, who held the seat, passed away in May of this year. Jennifer Copeland filed for Seat G, currently held by Chris McCarrick. All three are running unopposed.

Deltana Community Corporation may also be seeing some new faces, depending on October’s voting outcome. Both Barbara Parker and Richard Stillie are running unopposed for seats E and F, respectively. Kurt Schmidt currently sits in Seat E but chose not to run as an incumbent but threw his hat in the ring for Seat C, challenging Justin Harris. Chris Jepsen has filed for Seat D and is being challenged by James Squyres, who currently holds Seat F. Squyres also elected to not run as an incumbent. Sherman Stebbin originally sat in Seat C but resigned in July of this year. Seat D is held by Don Hannan, who is not seeking reelection.

Two current city council members are running unopposed, with Timothy Webb filing for Seat E and Peter Hallgren running for Seat F. Kimba Crocketts-Manning, a newcomer to the area, is running unopposed for Seat B. Sherry Heinbockel currently holds the seat but declined to run. Seat C will be write-in, as no candidate officially filed for the seat.

One Big Delta Rescue board of directors seat will also be on the ballot, but as of press time BDR did not release any information.
