Lathrop Malamutes wrestling team made the trek to Delta Junction Oct. 16 to take on the Husky wrestlers.
“It was our first duel of the season,” said coach Zachery Wiggins. “Our team has been working really hard over the past couple weeks in preparation for this.”
“The duel started with our girls team, and they went undefeated other than forfeits,” explained Wiggins.”They pulled off a win of 23-12.”
Following the win by the lady Huskies, the boys took to the mat.
“The boys' duel came in second to Lathrop,” Wiggins stated. “They wrestled well but ended up losing to the Malemute. I am very happy with how our first duel turned out, and I can't wait to keep up the good work.”
Wiggins maintains the Delta wrestlers are the toughest athletes around and to keep an eye on them as the season progresses.
“They are representing our school and town in such an incredible way,” said Wiggins.
The next home duel will be November 7. Wiggins’ assistant coach is Chris McCarrick.
And in case anyone is wondering, a duel is a one‑on‑one team meet between two schools or teams. Each wrestler competes in only one match against an opponent in the same weight class.
